John Charles - Our History

One of the oldest British evening/occasionwear houses, John Charles is a reference for glamour and sophistication. Since inception in 1958 the brand has dressed some of the worlds most stylish and influential women, being described as ‘a woman’s best kept secret’.

Building on a reputation of quality design, luxurious fabrics and intricate attention to details, John Charles remains true to its heritage, whilst incorporating new trends and direction. Design Director Regine Ellis has been the driving force behind the brands successes for the past 15 years;

“My customer is most important to me. She is one whose individuality and inner confidence shines on the outside. She is sensuous, feminine and glamorous. She wants to be seen and discovered… we design clothes to make her look and feel as unique and special as she is.” Regine Ellis

Inspiration and fabrics are sourced from travelling around the world including; Paris, Milan, New York and Hong Kong, researching new methods of embellishment and styling, constantly exploring the boundaries of what woman want to wear for all special occasions allowing garments to be worn time after time from society weddings to a simple dinner.

John Charles is exclusively available throughout some of the world’s premier independent boutiques and stores, where invaluable specialist knowledge of each garment is offered for impeccable personalised service, ensuring we deliver the highest quality experience to our customer.

Hot in the footsteps of her sophisticated sibling, John Charles Boutique is the hip girl's answer for that ultimate dress. More youthful than the house's main line, Boutique retains the ultra-glam, individualistic and decidedly feminine personality of John Charles with a twist.

Launched for Spring 2008, the beautifully crafted designs fuse cutting-edge fashion with idiosyncratic cool in a bold statement of vivid colours and luxurious fabrics. Daring silhouettes with plunging necklines, short full hems and body skimming drapes are adorned with chic stylish details to add dimension and personality to each piece creating maximum impact at any special event.

Designed and based in London the collection is available in more than 50 specialist boutiques across UK & Europe.
